Chiropractic & Nutritional Care Can Help Relieve Migraine Headaches

Chronic migraines can be one of the greatest disrupters to one’s quality of life. For some, their only respite is to turn off the lights, go into a dark room, maybe take prescription medication, and try to sleep or wait until the migraine resolves itself.

Migraines are generally the result of too much blood around the brain when blood vessels contract and can’t relax making them unable to pump blood away from the brain. They may be several factors can lead to migraines including mineral deficiency, hormone imbalances, or food sensitivity.

For new patients, during our initial evaluation, we will look for any musculoskeletal issues as well as possible hormonal, food, or other triggers that may cause migraines. Chiropractic care can help to relieve tension in the muscles and arteries at the base of your head to improve mobility and circulation. We may also recommend nutritional supplementation with magnesium which helps blood vessels to relax and start pumping blood away from the brain.

Our Clinic's Approach To Treating Migraines

What are Migraines & Their Symptoms?

Migraines are very intense headaches that are accompanied with auras, nausea, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light. Generally, you may have to take medication or go into a dark room with maybe an ice pack on your head and sleep it off until the pain goes away.

What Causes Migraines?

Migraines can have many potential causes, but in general, migraines occur when there is too much blood in the brain; this happens when the blood vessels responsible for removing blood from the brain contract and don’t relax. Blood goes up into the head and it doesn’t come down quickly enough resulting in an overload of blood.

Sometimes migraines are hormonal driven or result from a food sensitivity. During our initial consultation with patients, we may need to dig a little bit deeper to find what’s triggering your migraines. They can be tricky to figure out what is actually causing them, but once we find that out, we can correct that and then get you better a lot faster than just taking medication the rest of your life, which nobody wants to do

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a beautiful way to help reduce migraine frequency. We’ve had patients come into the clinic who suffer from a migraine every single week if not multiple times a week. Getting a few chiropractic adjustments into their routine can really help reduce that frequency maybe to once a month, once every other month, or even resolve it completely.

Chiropractic adjustments restore mobility in your joints and help reduce the tension on the muscles and blood vessels to get the blood to come back down. This really helps to resolve migraines very well.

Nutritional Care

We may recommend magnesium supplementation to help reduce some chronic or long-term migraine pains as it helps improve the blood flow around your brain. All of our vessels are literally tiny muscles that pump the blood throughout our body. If there’s tension in the vessels that are pumping blood up and it is restricted, you need to relax it to create a larger pathway for the blood to come back down. Calcium from our diet contracts muscles and magnesium relaxes muscles.

Home Therapy For Migraines

There are ways to get the vessels to relax a bit to allow that blood flow to come down. A nice little home-trick we tell people to do is to put an ice pack on the neck and a hot pack on the hands. That will draw the blood out of the head and give it a direction to go.
