Our Clinic's Approach To Treating Bedwetting In Children
Oftentimes, when we think of chiropractic we don’t think of kids. But kids have a tremendous response to chiropractic care. I’m going to talk today about bedwetting that persists in children beyond what we think of the normal time, three or four years of age.
So we see kids in our office who might be in elementary school that still wet the bed at night. This concerns parents. Obviously, we want to make sure there’s not an organic cause or some something going on inside that would cause that. And also it socially inhibits these children from spending the night at their friend’s. So it’s a very important issue.
Muscle tension from daily activity or injury in the spine and neck can lead to vertebrae being out of alignment and possibly reduce the signal of the nerve leaving that vertebra. If they are not able to send a good signal to the organs they lead to, this can lead to issues arising in those organs.
What we find with chiropractic care and children with bedwetting often is that there is an issue in the very lower part of their spine. The sacrum, which is a triangular bone at the base of the spine, is the last bone to become completely bone in the human body. Well, not until you the age of about 25 does that become completely bone. So in a child, it’s cartilage. That means it’s not quite as hard as normal bone.
When a child will fall right onto their bum or have a significant slip on the ice and come down on their on their lower back, oftentimes, that sacrum will buckle, or it’ll create just a little buckle, in that the nerves that leave that area go to the bowel and bladder. So that produces a little pull on those nerves. And that often can cause things like constipation, diarrhea, or bedwetting.
So often, two or three adjustments and we hear wonderful stories that the child is no longer wetting the bed. What a simple solution with no negative side effects. So if this is something that you think we can help you with, feel free to contact our office, Brown Family Chiropractic. We would love to see you.
