Inflammation is a natural, protective response to initiate healing. It is the correct response of our body when we have an acute injury such as: a sprained ankle, stubbed toe, a slipped disc etc. The area gets warm, red and swollen as our body sends out the “big guns” to initiate healing to this area. In this sense, inflammation is a good response and is protective. But, with excessive or uncontrolled inflammation, we can actually delay healing and can cause a chronic disease (osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, RA, etc). Food/Nutrition can be used to help change the body's chemistry, minimize prolonged inflammation, & promote healing.
Most Americans live in pain. 53% of Americans suffer from chronic or recurrent pain. So, how does inflammation work? Think of injured tissue as an immune system threat. Our body sends out its “army” of immune cells to take care of this “threat”. There are a series of chemicals that are released by this tissue that leads to inflammation and pain in an attempt to heal/address the injured area. This works great if there is a healthy balance between “pro-inflammatory” and “anti-inflammatory” compounds during this process. Unfortunately, many people experience chronic inflammation and pain because they have not given their bodies the tools it needs to maintain this balance.

Some people assume that chiropractors “just crack joints” and only fix neck or back pain. But your body is an integrated system of nerves, cells, and chemicals. If one aspect is out of balance, it can wreak havoc on the body. At Brown Family Chiropractic, we are also trained to provide nutritional counseling to help the body heal, reduce inflammation, reduce pain, improve digestion, improve nutrient absorption and overall wellness in the body.
